Finish data sheets (GME)

Glass and PET finish geometry (GME)

Our catalogue of so-called 'GME' sheets concerns documents relating to the geometry of glass and PET finishes.

What is the neck of a bottle?

The finish is the upper part of the bottle or jar, more commonly known as the "neck".

How to measure a neck finish?

In this section, you will find specifications concerning neck finishes for plastic bottles and finishes for glass bottles or glass jars and flacons.
You will be able to access different types of neck finishes drawings, neck finish definition, dimensions of neck finishes diameters, and more other precise documentation.
Are available for download different neck finish types such as PCO finishes (PCO 1810 and PCO 1881), ROPP finishes, MCA finishes series, FEA neck finishes and other neck finish drawings.

Cetie provides only its own recognised standards: you won’t be able to access to ISBT or GPI neck finishes from our website.
Refer to the DT data sheet's page to access bottle neck finish nomenclature, as well as the detailed neck finish defect (visual and critical glass finish defects).

What are the finishes specifications for standard closures?

For more details concerning neck finish closure types, visit the EC section and the bottling guide referring to specific bottled products.

These specifications are crucial for :
  • Designing the moulds (finish moulds for glass packaging & plastic moulding for PET packaging)
  • Allow all the functions expected of the closure: perfect liquid tightness, controlled permeability to contained gas and air, multiple re-openings or not, ease of opening (unscrewing torque), resistance to self-unscrewing, anti-break-in and/or anti-refilling functions, aesthetic functions (skirts, etc...), adaptation to opening tools (corkscrews, bottle openers)
  • Ensure the ideal connection with the corking accessories (inserts, worms, pumps, pourers, seals, over caps) and of course with the corks, crown caps or screw caps, of all materials.
  • Remain compatible with the bottling lines: compatibility with the diameters of the filling nozzles, interference zones with the line tools, the grip of the bottle by the finish.
  • Allow the correct application of the closure elements: by pressing, crimping, snapping, screwing, or forming on the finish (ROPP, crowns)
  • To serve as a working basis for the development of new designs

Taking into account the special conditions:
  • Compatibility with the nature of the bottled product (flat/transparent or carbonated/effervescent product, aggressive or sticky product, liquid, pasty or containing lumps)
  • Compatibility with filling conditions and heat treatments (cold or hot filling, pasteurisation)
  • Adaptation to storage and distribution conditions (maximum temperatures, vertical load)

And in line with the feasibility of the bottle manufacturer, so as to reduce the risk of manufacturing defects as much as possible.

GME13.10 - 26 H 126 & 26 H 180 CROWN FINISHES - DIMENSIONS - ALTERNATIVE 'P' POINT

This data sheet provides specifications and dimensions of the crown finishes for glass bottles with an alternative P point.
  • 26 H 126 mm shallow
  • 26 H 180 mm tall
This P point is smoother than in the original designs (ISO 12821 & 12822), in order to improve safety during opening. However, the filler may need to review the crown material used, as this modification could affect the interaction between the crown cap and the finish and could affect the pressure retention.

Scope
This data sheet provides specifications and dimensions of the 26 H 180 mm tall crown finish for glass bottles with a modified P point. This point is smoother than in the previous finish, in order to reduce risks of breakage. The filler must pay particular attention to the material of the crown cap and to the efficient crimping, since this smoother P point retains less the cap than the former one.

GME40.20 - FLACONNAGE - SUSTAINABLE NECK FINISHES: SCREW NECK WITHOUT ADDITIONAL BEAD

Scope
This data sheet specifies dimensions of a screw neck finish without additional bead for glass bottles dedicated to perfume and cosmetics.

This neck finish is part of a range of neck finishes specifically designed to:
  • Keep the components (collar, cap, ...) of an existing packaging, when switching from a crimped neck finish (EN 14854) to a screw neck finish ;
  • Refill bottles using a plastic screw ferrule instead of an aluminium one, thus avoiding possible frictions.
Screw neck finishes are based on the thread defined by GPI 415 to create the plastic screw ferrule (the ferrule is thicker in plastic than in metal).
The rice grains are intended to limit the risk of self-unscrewing (neck lubrication by the content,...). Option to choose depending on the development.
The finish exists with and without additional bead. The version without bead is not compatible with heavy bottles, the limit weight shall be validated with the glassmaker according to the shape of the bottle.

Designation of the finish :
  • SNI 15: (Screw Neck International diameter 15)
  • CNI 15: (Crimped Neck International diameter 15)
For the screw neck finish with additional bead, refer to the GME40.25.
For the crimped finish with additional bead, refer to the GME40.30

Scope
This data sheet specifies dimensions of an interchangeable screw neck finish with additional bead for glass bottles dedicated to perfume and cosmetics.

This neck finish is part of a range of neck finishes specifically designed to:
  • Allow interchangeability of the bottle mould between crimped neck finishes and screw neck finishes (for versions with bead) ;
  • Keep the components (collar, cap, ...) of an existing packaging, when switching from a crimped neck finish (EN 14854) to a screw neck finish ;
