2025 Publications: New Technical Documents Supporting Innovation and Sustainability in Packaging

Le 11/06/2025
Cetie is pleased to announce a new series of updated and newly published technical documents released in 2025. These publications reflect the most recent developments, industry needs, and evolving best practices in bottling and packaging, especially in the glass packaging sector and PET packaging for beverage applications.

All documents are the result of collaborative work carried out by Cetie's international expert working groups, composed of professionals from throughout the bottling value chain — including manufacturers of bottles, caps and closures, brands, converters, machine suppliers, and control equipment providers.

The complete documentation is freely available on www.cetie-standard.com. To access it, simply create a free user account or contact us directly at contact@cetie.org.

This year’s key publications include:

GME30.14 – 2-Start Thread Pilfer-Proof Finishes (Revision I)
GME21.00 – Continuous Thread Finish Ø 43–90 mm (Revision I)
GME12.10 – Finish for Swing Stopper (First edition)
FS25.00 – Definition and Measurement of ‘F’ Dimension (Revision I)
FS10.00 – Headspace Recommendations for Flaconnage (Revision I)
Guide No. 15 – Application of the EU SUP Directive and EN 17665 (Revision III)

These publications support practical, harmonised, and forward-looking approaches to technical challenges in glass packaging (e.g. neck finishes, stopper compatibility, headspace) and PET packaging, particularly in relation to tethered closure systems, as addressed in the Single-Use Plastic Directive (EU) 2019/904 and the harmonised EN 17665 standard.

This latest Revision III of Guide No. 15, published in March 2025, provides expanded support for companies seeking to comply with Article 6 of the Directive. The document addresses how to assess whether a product falls under the directive and how to demonstrate compliance.

This topic, and more broadly the challenges of aligning innovation and sustainability, was also at the heart of a recent and thoughtful reflection shared by Mr. Michael Krueger (CEO Corvaglia Group, chairing the Cetie "Group Sustainability aspects of rigid plastic and composite packaging") on LinkedIn following his participation in two Cetie working group meetings:

“Sustainability is a key focus for the Corvaglia group – every day, we are committed to developing material-efficient, recycling-friendly, and innovative closure solutions. But to achieve real progress, we need to think and act beyond company boundaries.”

“How can we prevent intellectual property rights from slowing down sustainable innovations?”

Mr. Krueger raised a fundamental question: in the pursuit of recyclable, lightweight, and resource-efficient packaging, can patents become a barrier rather than a driver of progress? His contribution echoes the spirit of Cetie: fostering an open and trusted space for dialogue, even between competitors, where solutions are co-developed for the benefit of the entire industry. He also highlighted two key milestones achieved during the recent PET working group meetings:

-The finalisation of Guide No. 15, Revision III: this guide will be constantly updated.
-And the drafting of Guideline No. 19, initiated by Alessandro Falzoni (Rigid Packaging Technologies Laboratory Director at SACMI, and chairing the "PET plenary" group), focusing on enhancing the recyclability of HDPE closures.

Such progress demonstrates the value of active participation in Cetie working groups, where experts contribute to shaping technical references that support compliance, improve industrial performance, and accelerate sustainable innovation across sectors.

If your organisation is not yet part of this collective effort, we encourage you to contact us and explore how you can join the discussion and contribute to the development of future standards. For all enquiries, please reach out to us at contact@cetie.org
