Cap data sheets (EC)

Caps data sheets

The series presents the geometry and dimensional characteristics of caps, highlighting specifications for 26mm crown caps and aluminum screw caps (ROPP - Roll On Pilfer Proof). These screw caps can have short or long threads and are used for products like still or sparkling wines, liqueurs or spirits, and edible oils. The data sheets provide details on "BVP" or "BVS" type threads, and some may allow for the application of an insert, such as a pourer or other accessories.

EC1.02 - 26 millimetre crown cap

This data sheet gives specifications for the 26 millimetres intermediate depth crown cap, lined with a plastic gasket and designed to seal bottles conforming typically but not exclusively to ISO 12821 and ISO 12822 standards for pry-off and Cetie GME 14.01 & GME 14.02 for twist-off. It specifies the dimensional requirements that are of direct importance to the customer/bottler and recommendations for cap application. The gasket material and profile are not specified as a number of different profiles are available depending on the end use and supplier specific technology. The requirement placed on the gasket profile design is that it must be fit for purpose used in conjunction with glass finishes in reference.

EC3.01 - GOOD PRACTICES FOR THE USE OF SYNTHETIC STOPPERS

This data sheet sets down different tests, measures, and precautions to be observed to ensure optimum performance during capping of still wines with synthetic stoppers in a cork mouth finish as per Cetie data sheet GME 50.01 (Standard EN 12 726). When used on other finishes, specific tests are to be set up.

EC4.01 - ALUMINIUM SCREW CAPS FOR STILL WINE ON BVS GLASS FINISHES

Scope
This data sheet gives specifications and dimensions for aluminium caps intended for still wine to be applied on BVS type glass finishes according to EN 16293 “Glass Packaging - Deep BVS finishes for “still wines” with redraw on application.
For the purpose of this data sheet, still wine is defined as in EN 16293, as a carbonation level < 1,2 g CO2/l and overpressure from CO2 < 1 bar. It concerns the cap before application with generic information on liner characteristics, but does not specify liner type, for which several alternatives are available according to customer preference and the characteristics of the filled product. It does not cover caps for shallow finishes, only available for "BVP" type closures as given in Cetie specification EC 4.03.

EC4.02 - Aluminium screw caps for pressurised liquids on BVS glass finishes

This data sheet gives specifications and dimensions for aluminium caps designed for BVS type glass finishes according to EN 16293 Glass packaging - Deep BVS finishes for still wines with redraw on application, for pressurised wines and other liquids to a maximum pressure of 2,5 bar at 20°C (max 4 bar in service).

Higher carbonation levels require specific conditions to agree between the filler and the cap supplier. Only long skirt caps are considered in accordance with current practice at the time of writing.

Note that as stated in this standard, the use of this finish for wine with a CO2 content > 1,2 g CO2/l. is subject to prior agreement between the cap supplier, the glassmaker and the filler. It concerns the cap before application with generic information on liner characteristics.

It does not specify a liner type, for which several alternatives are available according to the requirements of the product and customer preference.

It does not cover caps for shallow finishes, only available for "BVP" type closures which cannot be used for pressurized beverages.

It does not cover short skirt BVS capsules which are practically not used in pressure applications.

EC4.03 - ALUMINIUM SCREW CAPS FOR STILL LIQUIDS ON BVP GLASS FINISHES

Scope
This data sheet gives both specifications and dimensions for aluminium caps designed for the glass finish according to the standard EN15543 – "Glass packaging. Finishes for bottles. Screw thread finishes for bottles for non-carbonated liquids", generally known as "BVP" finishes.

It concerns the cap before application with generic information on liner characteristics, but does not specify liner type, for which several alternatives are available according to customer preference and filled product. Note that BVP closures are not suitable for pressure applications.

BVP closures are frequently used with inserts, particularly pourers (e.g. for vegetable oil applications) or to discourage refilling (e.g. for spirits applications). Such inserts are not considered in this document.
