Finish data sheets (GME)

The Finish geometry data sheets

The series focuses on Glass and PET Finish Geometry (GME), providing information about the upper part of bottles or jars known as the "neck." It covers specifications for measuring neck finishes, including drawings, definitions, and dimensions for plastic and glass bottles. Various neck finish types, such as PCO, ROPP, MCA, and FEA, are available for download. The importance of these specifications is highlighted for designing molds, ensuring closure functions, compatibility with bottling lines, and serving as a basis for new designs. Special considerations include compatibility with the bottled product, filling conditions, heat treatments, storage, and distribution conditions. The data sheets emphasise collaboration with bottle manufacturers to minimize manufacturing defects.

GME12.01 - Glass finishes for snap-on pourer closures (so-called Verplast finishes)

This data sheet specifies the dimensions of the glass finish for pouring clip-on cap finish (so-called Verplast » of diameter 29 and 32 for still liquids, e.g.; oils, cordials, sauces, vinegar, …).
The following finishes are detailed in this data sheet:
  • "Verplast" diameter 29/21 for spout with a short skirt
  • "Verplast" diameter 29/21 K32 for spout with long skirt
  • "Verplast" diameter 32/24 for spout with a short skirt
for plastic caps.

This data sheet gives an overview of the main available glass finishes available for sparkling wines and other carbonated beverages with a stopper made of cork or synthetic material, generally maintained in place with a wire cage, with or without the possibility of alternatively receiving a crown cap, in particular when the production process involves secondary fermentation in the bottle.
It is intended as a purely informative document covering the main finishes known to Cetie with no pretention to be exhaustive. Bottlers should verify with their bottle supplier that a particular finish is adapted to their product and closure system.

GME13.10 - 26 H 126 and 26 H 180 crown finishes - Dimensions - Alternative

This data sheet provides specifications and dimensions of the crown finishes for glass bottles with an alternative "P" point.
  • 26 H 126 mm shallow
  • 26 H 180 mm tall
This "P" point is smoother than in the original designs  (ISO 12821 - GLASS PACKAGING — 26 H 180 CROWN FINISH — DIMENSIONS et  ISO 12822 - GLASS PACKAGING — 26 H 126 CROWN FINISH — DIMENSIONS), to improve safety during opening. However, the filler may need to review the crown material used, as this modification could affect the interaction between the crown cap and the finish and could affect the pressure retention.

  • The radius at the "P" point is 1,2 mm instead of 0,5 on the ISO documents
  • The entry bore diameter is restricted to the range of 16,5 / 18 mm; diameters until 18,5 are not allowed, for tightness reasons.
16/10/2020 - Latest update 13/06/2022
GME13.11 - 26 H 180 crown finish - Dimensions - modified ''P'' point

This data sheet provides specifications and dimensions of the 26 H 180 mm tall crown finish for glass bottles with a modified P point. This point is smoother than in the previous finish, in order to reduce risks of breakage. The filler must pay particular attention to the material of the crown cap and to the efficient crimping, since this smoother P point retains less the cap than the former one.

GME40.20 - Flaconnage - Sustainable neck finishes - Screw neck without additional bead

This data sheet specifies dimensions of a screw neck finish without additional bead for glass bottles dedicated to perfume and cosmetics.
It applies to glass containers with a nominal diameter of the neck finish around 13, 15 or 17 mm

This neck finish is part of a range of neck finishes specifically designed to:
- Keep the components (collar, cap, ...) of an existing packaging, when switching from a crimped neck finish (EN 14854) to a screw neck finish ;
- Refill bottles using a plastic screw ferrule instead of an aluminium one, thus avoiding possible frictions.

Screw neck finishes are based on the thread defined by GPI 415 to create the plastic screw ferrule (the ferrule is thicker in plastic than in metal).

The rice grains are intended to limit the risk of self-unscrewing (neck lubrication by the content, ...). Option to choose depending on the development.

The finish exists with and without additional bead. The version without bead is not compatible with heavy bottles, the limit weight shall be validated with the glassmaker according to the shape of the bottle.

Designation of the finish :
-    SNI 15: (Screw Neck International diameter 15)
-    CNI 15: (Crimped Neck International diameter 15)

For the screw neck finish with additional bead, refer to the GME40.25.
For the crimped finish with additional bead, refer to the GME40.30.

GME40.25 - Flaconnage - Sustainable neck finishes - Interchangeable screw neck with additional bead

This data sheet specifies dimensions of an interchangeable screw neck finish with additional bead for glass bottles dedicated to perfume and cosmetics.
It applies to glass containers with a nominal diameter of the neck finish around 13, 15 or 17 mm

This neck finish is part of a range of neck finishes specifically designed to:
- Allow interchangeability of the bottle mould between crimped neck finishes and screw neck finishes (for versions with bead) ;
- Keep the components (collar, cap, ...) of an existing packaging, when switching from a crimped neck finish (EN 14854) to a screw neck finish ;
- Refill bottles using a plastic screw ferrule instead of an aluminium one, thus avoiding possible frictions.
Screw neck finishes are based on the thread defined by GPI 415 to create the plastic screw ferrule (the ferrule is thicker in plastic than in metal).

Designation of the finish:
- SNI 15: (Screw Neck International diameter 15)
- CNI 15: (Crimped Neck International diameter 15)

For the screw neck finish without additional bead, refer to the GME40.20.
For the crimped finish with additional bead, refer to the GME40.30.
